what is documentary photography?
Real, honest and authentic moments photographed for you to keepsake for generations to come. It's about capturing your life precisely as it is. The way your children see you and the way you see you children, or the way you and your partner engage in your daily life, and most importantly an insight to your family life and your own role within it. So nothing posed or directed, no need to clean up or dress up, just anything and everything you would normally do in a day.
what if my day is boring?
There's no such a thing as boring in family life. We all know how crazy it can get and those moments are worth capturing. But we also know how quite and still it sometimes can get, and that'll result in some of the most beautiful authentic visual moments of your life all photographed. So bring on the crazy and bring on the silence, there's beauty in all moments.
will you be shooting for 3 or 6 hours straight?
No, I will be focusing on those special moments that unfold. The part day and full sessions are very much moments based. So I'll be waiting for the right moments patiently and there might be times when I don't shoot at all for a short period.
what about the mini session, how do we get the most out of it?
As time is limited for the mini sessions, I would suggest you come up with an activity to do as a family. This can be playing family games outdoors or indoors, cooking or baking together, spending some time on the beach or whatever you enjoy doing as a family. You might already have certain daily games and routines that I can document. If you're not sure just ask me and we can discuss options together.
do we need to feed you?
Not to worry, I'll be well fed before I come for our session, and if I'm staying for a longer session I'll make sure to bring along my own packed food. I'm a fussy eater anyway!
Will you shoot any day of the week?
This is only a part-time project, so even though I can be somewhat flexible, weekends might generally be more suitable. Which seems to work out best for families anyway as that's usually when the whole family is home and together. However, I might be able to make exceptions for special occasions, just get in touch and let me know what you need, I'm sure we can work something out.
WHAT ABOUT PORTRAITS?
The part day and full sessions will include some portraits, where I get the whole family in frame, these wont be overly posed, only mildly directed. The majority of the time will be spent on documenting your day and that will include environmental portraits.
what if my kids don't behave?
No problem! The more real the better. I don't want kids to behave a certain way, but to just be themselves. If they happen to be in a bad mood that day, that's what I'll capture or if they happen to feel crazy, goofy, quite, tired, funny or really whatever they might feel like being that day, that's what it will be. That is the real beauty of documentary family photography.
How do you use the photos for your work?
I will use the photos from our session on my website and social media to promote my work, however, on social media I only share faceless photos when it comes to children as internet safety comes first! Make sure to checkout my social media to get a better idea.
Do you also do couples session?
Yes I do! we'll discuss a location beforehand that suits you and your partner and aim to capture your love and relationship to each other. This will be a mixture of documentary and mildly posed session. You can see some examples in my portfolio. Just get in touch and let's see what we can create together.
HOW LONG BEFORE MY PHOTOS ARE DELIVERED?
For a mini and couples sessions 7-10 days, part day sessions 2-3 weeks and full sessions 4-5 weeks. I will do my best to deliver sooner if I possibly can, but please be aware that the editing and culling process is the most time consuming part and it's a very important part of this work, so your patience is essential and much appreciated.
how many photos will you deliver?
The minimum amount of photos delivered is mentioned in the price-list, and that's what I will guarantee to deliver. However I tend to overdeliver as I like to give you options.
DO YOU ALSO DO EVENTS?
If you'd like me to document an event such as a birthday party, a family gathering of any sort or even a small wedding do get in touch. As long as you're interested in documentary approach and not overly posed photos, I can definitely help you.
HOW DOES THE PAYMENT WORK?
Once you're ready to book a session, you're required to pay a non-refundable deposit of 20% for me to hold the date for you. The remaining fee is due the day before your scheduled session.
What if i need to cancel or reschedule?
I get it, life happens for both you and me. If you need to cancel that's fine but just remember that the deposit is non-refundable. However if you need to reschedule, your deposit will just go towards your new booking, so no loss there. Same way if I need to reschedule due to family matters and illness, I'll put your deposit towards a new date that you are happy with.
CAN i order prints?
Yes you can! Once you have your online gallery, click on the desired photo and you'll see a shopping cart on the top. Click on it and it'll give you different options for printing.
